Elk Rapids Cinema Shows Some Love to Elk Rapids Schools

Elk Rapids, MI – June 11, 2024 – The Elk Rapids Cinema announces a series of initiatives aimed at celebrating and supporting the Elk Rapids Schools community. From Teacher Appreciation Days and job opportunities for high school students to a unique video project for students of all ages, the cinema is dedicated to fostering a strong relationship with local schools.

Teacher Appreciation Days

In recognition of the outstanding contributions of our local educators, Elk Rapids Cinema is offering complimentary movie tickets to teachers and their household members on Mondays and Thursdays throughout June and July. This gesture is a heartfelt thank you to the teachers from Lakeland Elementary, Mill Creek Elementary, Cherryland Middle School, and Elk Rapids High School for their dedication and hard work.

Dates: Every Monday and Thursday in June and July
Times: Matinees at 2 PM and evening shows at 7 PM
Offer: Complimentary tickets for teachers and their household members

"We want to show the teachers some love and provide them with an opportunity to relax and enjoy a movie with their families," said Marianne Burrows, Cinema Manager, whose 6-year-old son Isaac attends Lakeland Elementary. "Our teachers deserve a break, and we wanted to offer this small token of our appreciation."

Current and upcoming films include "IF," "Garfield," "Ghost Light," “Fly Me To The Moon” and classics like "North by Northwest" (Alfred Hitchcock) and "The Goonies." among others.  Visit www.elkrapidscinema.com for the full schedule through August 19.  

Job Opportunities for High School Students

Elk Rapids Cinema is also offering job opportunities for high school students ages 16 and over. The cinema is looking for motivated individuals to join their team as Movie Theater Attendants. This role includes assisting with box office operations, concessions, and ensuring a positive experience for all cinema patrons. Students will have the opportunity to advance in other departments such as broadcast arts, puppetry, performing arts, and filmmaking.  High school students interested in applying may send a resume, or letter of interest, or both to marianne@chalfonte.org or visit the cinema at 205 River Street.  

3 Minutes in July Video Project

Finally, the cinema is launching a special project for Elk Rapids School students of all ages to create a 3-minute video capturing their life in July. Whether it's a vacation adventure, a day at the beach, or hanging out at home or around Elk Rapids, students are encouraged to share their experiences. Videos can be a compilation of moments or a single piece, featuring interviews, mini-documentaries, or just having fun.

All submissions will be showcased at the Elk Rapids Cinema during the annual Harbor Days celebration from July 31 to August 1.
